JOHNSON, HAROLD J.

BIO: Harold was raised near Truman, Minnesota. He entered the army September of 1942 and was a member of Co A 50th Engineers CP, White, Oregon. He served in the Aleutian Islands, Eastern Mandates, and the Philippines. He was injured during his service and received the Purple Heart. After the service he lived in Fairmont with his wife Laura and five children. He owned and operated Johnson Auto Repair until retiring. He was active in the American legion and VFW. He loved to joke and was remembered as "The Mayor of Amber lake Drive". He loved to fish and hunt. He also whittled and had many diamond willow canes he made and gave to friends and family. He and his family made yearly trips to the annual 50th Engineering reunions. He was lifelong friends with his army buddies and each year they would meet in a different place taking turns hosting. The children of these men continue the tradition usually meeting in Austin and Albert lea every July.  Harold left the service as a Tec 5, and received the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, and Bronze Arrowhead.
