MARQUARDT, FRANCIS O

BIOGRAPHY: Francis entered the Army on September 23, 1943 from Ft Snelling, Minnesota. He was assigned to the infantry as a rifleman. He was stationed in Rhineland, Central Europe, Italy, France, and Germany. He claimed to have walked over every mountain in Italy. He receivedthe European, African, Middle Eastern Theatre service medals and three overseas service bars. His last nine months were spent in the convalescent hospital because he had developed trench foot. He was scheduled to have his feet amputated in the morning but his buddies stayed up all night massaging his feet until he regained circulation in them, thus saving his feet. He was then assigned to the 2nd hospital corps as a light truck driver and removing the wounded from the fields. PFC Francis was honorably discharged on December 13, 1945 from Ft McCoy, Wisconsin.
