SHEELY, DONALD M

BRANCH OF SERVICE: Navy

BIOGRAPHY: Donald enlisted into the Navy at the age of 17 years old, on February 15,1943. He was at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Donald was a Lt. Commander who boarded the Russian fishing trawler in 1959. Five trans-Atlantic cables were cut linking America to England. Lt. Commander Sheely boarded the vessel for inspection. He was discharged from the Navy after 20 years of service on October 1, 1967, from Brooklyn, New York. he received the Viet Nam Campaign Medal with device (60); Viet Nam service Medal (w/2 Bronze Stars); National Defense Service Medal (w/Bronze Star); Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Taiwan); United Nations Service Medal; Korean Service Medal. Graduated U,S. Naval Academy. Commissioned Ensign in June of 1951. Served on the USNTC Farragut; U.S. Naval Armory, Chicago Illinois; naval Electrician School, Washington, D.C.; USS Mt Olympus; USS Golden City; U.S. Naval Operations Base, Guam; NAPS, Bainbridge, Maryland; Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland; USS Rendova; USS Stickell (DDR 888); Destroyer Division 262; Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington, D.C.; USS Roy O'Hale; USNPGS Montery, California; USS Fechteler (DDR-870); USS Monticello (LSD-35); COMthirteen; MSTSLANT, Brooklyn, New York.

YEARS OF SERVICE: 1943-1967
